Ninety-eight-year-old Juanita Blair was looking for a special place to share her homemade picture books with children and she found the Ronald McDonald House.
All year long, Juanita, and her volunteer Laura Shriver, have cut pictures out of magazines and created picture books. Juanita lives at Marquis at Centennial, a living facility run by Marquis Companies. Each year, Marquis grants wishes to their residents through their New Chapters program. Juanita’s wish included giving her handmade treasures to children.
On Thursday December 11, Juanita arrived in a silver limousine with her best friend of 80 years, Mae Osborn. Mae and Juanita met at age 18 when they shared an apartment and worked in the same beauty parlor. For the past six years, Mae has visited Juanita once a week at Marquis without fail.
You could tell this was a special day for Juanita; she was dressed impeccably with her hair and nails done to perfection. With great joy Juanita delivered 14 lovingly-crafted picture books. Juanita’s tender generosity moved the Ronald McDonald House Charities staff to tears.
The books will be placed in the playroom for children staying at the House to enjoy.
As she was leaving Juanita announced that she was going home to get busy making more for next year!
